Have dry, chapped lips? Instead of using lip balms all the time, try this natural tip that will heal them from within. Gita Ramesh, director of Kairali Ayurvedic Group and author of ‘The Ayurvedic Cookbook’, suggest applying ghee in the navel. She explains why this works.
According to Ayurveda navel is one of the most important parts of the body. In Ayurveda, there are three primary life forces (doshas) in our body. They are called vata, pitta and kapha and all of these doshashave a permanent house in the body. Click here to know more about Ayurvedic doshas.
Vata is considered to be present in the navel which is its permanent house. This dosha is made up of air and space. People who have morevata, are likely to have dry and delicate skin. Read more about the characteristics of vata.

How to do it right:
- Warm a drop of ghee by putting it on a spoon and holding it over the flame for a few seconds.
- Now using a cotton ball, apply this ghee in your navel or belly button just before going to sleep.
- You can also use your finger but wash your hands with soap before you do so.
- It is best to do this lying down so that the ghee doesn’t spill much.
- If there is some extra ghee, you can dab it on your lips. Here’s how to make lip balm at home.
